Fusion Latina
Fusion Latina put on a remarkable display of talent at our August
2002 ABDClub
dance on Saturday night. The group of four, led by Jose Maldonado, demonstrated
precise timing and execution throughout the performance of this very high energy
dance. The lovely Trina Bordere also showed incredible body strength and control
as she gracefully came up out of some amazing layback patterns. The dances
performed were Group Salsa (LA Style) and a Bolero / Cha Cha combination. Fusion
Latina was represented by Jose Maldonado, Trina Bordere, Wayne Harris, and Karen
Barnes. Guests left the Great Hall knowing that they had seen another great
performance.

Jose Maldonado, Trina Bordere, and THE FUSION LATINA DANCE COMPANY are coming to
ABDClub in August. This amazing group has appeared on TV, at concerts and shows,
and made many appearances from coast to coast.
Jose Maldonado was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Jose is a process engineer
for a Kimberly-Clark, a consumer company, a Salsa dancer, performer, instructor,
and co-founder of Fusion Latina Dance Company. His love for music began at a
young age, when he was introduced to formal dancing. Since then he has extended
his expertise to Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha, and Cumbia. He has performed for the
Atlanta Jazz Theatre, where he had the opportunity to study with Dan Youmans and
the Salsambo Dance Company. He has also done concert openings, TV, and Salsa
Congress. Jose has taught Salsa for one year and currently teaches Salsa at Dan
& Company Studios, Atlanta Dance Studio, and The Living Room. I witnessed his
amazing dance skills as he and his partner Trina Bordere performed the closing
number at the Grand Opening of Atlanta Dance in Marietta. They were so
impressive that I immediately invited him and Trina to dance for us at the
Atlanta Ballroom Dance Club.
Trina Bordere began her dance training at the New Orleans Center for Creative
Arts, where she studied Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap, and Flamenco. She
has studied with such accomplished artists and directors as Ann Reinking,
Gregory Hines, BeBe Neuwirth, Stanley Donen, and many others. As a scholarship
student at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Trina has performed with The
Harrison Dance Company, and Fusion Latina Dance Company. She has been teaching
various dance techniques, including ballroom for the past ten years. She
currently teaches Salsa, Yoga, and Pilates at studios and athletic clubs in
Buckhead and the surrounding areas. It was at the Grand Opening of Atlanta Dance
that I saw her outstanding agility, movement and styling, as she performed the
closing number with her partner, Jose Maldonado.
Fusion Latina Dance Company is a group of dancers from different nationalities
who fuse together to share the passion for Latin rhythms. They perform
choreographies to Merengue, Cha Cha, and Jazz, specializing in their own hot and
energetic style Salsa, featuring Atlanta’s own Hip Hop rhythms. Their own
dancers have various dance backgrounds and vast experience performing both
locally and nationally in numerous shows, concerts, promotions, private and
corporate parties. Their list of appearances is extensive. Only a few of them
